Bonn and the Region
The City of the United Nations
The UN Campus is located right next to the World Conference Center Bonn. With 27 UN organizations and approximately 1,500 employees, it is the largest United Nations headquarters in Germany. The UN organizations based here, as well as other international organizations, focus their work on sustainability, particularly in the areas of the environment and development. The Bonn region is also home to numerous innovative research institutions, such as CAESAR (Center of Advanced European Studies and Research), the Fraunhofer Institute, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and other institutions in the fields of science and technology. Various ministries and several internationally active companies are also headquartered in Bonn. These include, among others, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Deutsche Welle, and the Deutsche Post DHL Group.

Discover the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven
A lot has happened in the city’s 2,000-year history, and the traces of past centuries make Bonn a vibrant city. Today, Bonn is a hub for future technologies, a lively university town, and a center for science.
At the same time, however, it is also a hub of art and culture, featuring world-class exhibitions and concerts. The federal city bears the mark of its native son, Ludwig van Beethoven, in many ways. Through various artistic representations as well as cultural references, Beethoven continues to resonate today: The Beethovenfest Bonn is one of the oldest and most significant music festivals in Germany; the Beethoven Orchester Bonn, ranks among Germany’s finest orchestras; and the Beethovenhalle Bonn serves as both a cultural hub and the home venue of the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn.
What Poets and Thinkers Rave About
The “Romantic Rhine” has fascinated people for centuries. And even today, rugged cliffs, wooded slopes, vineyard terraces, castles, and medieval towns continue to captivate visitors. The region around Bonn has even more scenic beauty to offer: the Ahr Valley wine-growing region and the idyllic Siegaue valley invite visitors to enjoy exciting side activities.
